Pictures of Fort William, Cape Coast

See: Cape Coast Castle
The present larger Fort William was built over the older fort in more durable materials. From the 1830's till the 1970's it was used as a lighthouse.

At present it houses several families of staff, who work at Cape Coast Castle (GMMB).

It can be visited (*free of charge). Viewing from outside. But to see the part of the fort, please remind yourself that you are walking around someones home. (Castle workers living there). The fort is actually not open to the public yet, as of 2019). Therefore, A friendly TIP (dashing) is always appreciated. We recommend at least 10 Ghana Cedis, each person!
In our opinion well worth it!
Another surviving lookout post; Fort Victoria, is within viewing distance.

Fort William (Lighthouse), Cape Coast - Fort William is sited on Dawson’s Hill in Cape Coast, in the Central Region of Ghana. Fort William was built in April 1820 on the site of a lookout post previously used for signalling purposes.

Prior to 1838, the fort was converted to a lighthouse and renamed Fort William.
