The present larger Fort William was built over the older fort in more durable materials. From the 1830's till the 1970's it was used as a lighthouse.
At present it houses several families of staff, who work at Cape Coast Castle (GMMB). It can be visited (*free of charge). Viewing from outside. But to see the part of the fort, please remind yourself that you are walking around someones home. (Castle workers living there). The fort is actually not open to the public yet, as of 2019). Therefore, A friendly TIP (dashing) is always appreciated. We recommend at least 10 Ghana Cedis, each person! In our opinion well worth it! Another surviving lookout post; Fort Victoria, is within viewing distance. |
